Government of Canada Invests in Southern Ontario CME SMART Prosperity Now Program

The Government of Canada announced the new CME SMART Prosperity Now program today, which fosters long-term growth for small to medium size businesses through undertaking projects that result in the adaptation and adoption of new technologies, processes and skills development that will enhance business productivity in their sector or industry.

Eligible applicants must be manufacturers based in Southern Ontario, be incorporated for a minimum of 2 years, have between 15 and 1,000 employees, be exporting or implementing a project that will provide an export opportunity, and cannot combine funding with any other government funding (although combining with SR&ED is allowed).  Eligible projects must start on or after January 1, 2012, and all project activities and associated reporting to CME must be completed within 1 year.

Projects may be funded up to 33.3% to a maximum of $75,000, and can include activities related to new market development, commercialization, global market expansion, sustainable and green technology, purchases of new or upgraded equipment and technology and lean productivity improvements.
