Government Business Grant Programs FAQ

Government Business Grant Programs FAQ

The following list represents answers to some frequently asked questions about government business grant and loan programs. If you have additional questions not answered here, please contact TSI directly for more information.

Why can’t we apply for these grant and loan programs ourselves?

You can certainly apply for grant programs independently. However, finding the specific programs that meet your needs can be a time consuming endeavour.   TSI stays up to date on the latest programs and when funding is available.   TSI offers consultation on eligibility as a complimentary service as part of our tax credit service offerings. In many cases, a client may not have the time, technical expertise, or financial expertise to submit an effective application. TSI can leverage its technical and financial team to quickly compile the information necessary to file a credible application and increase your chances of success.

I don’t see a government grant or loan program that fits my needs in the list you show on your web site. How can you help us?

TSI supports hundreds of grant and loan programs not shown on our web site, and we continually update our capabilities.  In addition, if you have a custom requirement, TSI will actively search for programs that specifically meet your needs.

How long does it take to create and submit an application for grant or loan programs?

The time varies widely, and is dependent on the program, the complexity of the project, and availability of information from our clients. Some programs require as little as 4 hours of effort, while others may take up to 60 hours. Many grant and loan programs require the development of a business case to support the application. If your company already has a business case created for your project, application times can often be significantly reduced.

Why can’t you charge a contingency fee based on success for grant or loan programs like you do for tax credit programs?

Consultants are prohibited under the Lobbyist Act of Canada from charging contingency fees on most grant programs. TSI consequently charges a competitive flat fee or time and materials rate for completing applications for government grant programs.

Where can I find more information about government business grant and loan programs?

There is no one single source of information about available programs. TSI scours numerous government web sites and works with government officials to identify the latest available programs.  Searching for these programs, reviewing, and assessing your eligibility against program criteria can be a time-consuming task. Let the experts at TSI help to quickly identify programs that meet your requirements.
